The Life’s Good company has emerged on the scene of consumer electronics as a major developer of high-definition TVs. LG TVs have the capability to connect to media devices through the use of High-Definition Multimedia Input, composite and component input, S-video and through standard coaxial cable. The PlayStation 3 is a multi-functional gaming device that doubles as a Blu-ray Disc player. If your PlayStation 3 won’t connect to your LG TV, check the physical connection from the PlayStation 3 to the TV. If the PlayStation 3 isn't responding to one type of connection, test it with one of the others.
HDMI
Connecting your PlayStation 3 with the use of an HDMI cable provides the highest-definition picture and sound that the PS3 can produce. You need a high-speed HDMI cable to use the fullest HD capabilities of the PS3, but any HDMI cable will work. To connect the PlayStation 3 to your LG TV via the HDMI connection, insert one end of the HDMI cable into the port on the back of the PS3 labeled “HDMI” and insert the other end of the HDMI cable into a port on your LG TV labeled “HDMI.” Fit both ends of the wire snugly inside of the ports. Depending on the model of your LG TV, you may have several HDMI ports. Take note of which HDMI port you connect the PS3 to and select the corresponding HDMI port on your LG TV with the remote control.
Component
The YPdPr connection, more commonly referred to as a component video connection, provides high-quality video and audio at a resolution of 420p. Like the HDMI cable, the PlayStation 3 don't come prepackaged with a component video cable. Component video cables are comprised of three separate video channels and two audio channels. The video channel cables are red, blue and green and oftentimes are separated from the red and white audio connections. Insert the colored cables into their corresponding ports on the back of the LG TV and the plastic end into the back of the PS3.
Composite
Composite cables provide the poorest picture quality when connecting a PS3 to a LG TV. The composite cable comes packaged with the PS3 and features a plastic connector with a red, white and yellow wire on the end. Press the plastic connector into the PS3 display output and insert the colored wires into the corresponding ports on the back of the LG TV.
Restart PS3 Video Input
The PS3 is factory set to display in composite video mode. Turn off the TV and PS3 and install the desired video connection. Turn on the TV and select the input source with the LG TV remote. Press and hold the power button on the PS3 until the system beeps twice. This turns on the PS3’s automatic display function and searches for any active display connections.
