How Do I Hook a PS3 Up to an Insignia Plasma?

All Insignia plasma televisions support at least one of the PlayStation 3’s video connection options. Because all plasma televisions are high definition, the PlayStation 3 will look best when using an HDMI or component video connection. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and component AV (audio/video) are capable of carrying the high resolution signals such as 720i or 1080p supported by most Insignia plasma televisions. An HDMI or component cable must be purchased separately as the PlayStation 3 does not include them.

Component

Press the "Power" button to turn the PS3 off.

Connect the flat side of the component cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the green, blue and red component prongs on the opposite side of the component cable into the "green," "blue" and "red component inputs on the back of the Insignia. Split off from the component prongs are the red and white audio inputs. Connect the red and white audio prongs into the "red" and "white" audio inputs next to the component inputs.

Change the Insignia TV video display mode to "Component." All models allow you to do this with the remote and others have a dedicated Video button on the TV itself. Press the "Power" button to turn the PS3 on and press the "PS" button on the PS3 controller to turn the controller on. The PS3 logo and menu will appear.

HDMI

Press the "Power" button to turn the PS3 off. Connect one side of HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port on the back of the PS3 and connect the other side into the "HDMI" port on the Insignia. Some models may have more than one HDMI port, so you'll need to make note of which port your using, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.

Change the Insignia TV video display mode to "HDMI." All models allow you to do this with the remote and others have a dedicated Video button on the TV itself. The display mode must match the name of the HDMI port you used. If you used HDMI 2, the video display mode should be "HDMI 2." Press the "Power" button to turn the PS3 on. The PS3 logo and menu will appear. The PS3 will automatically detect the HDMI connection and ask you to configure some key settings.

Select "Yes" when asked if you want to use the HDMI for audio and video. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to use the most optimal settings for the Insignia TV. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to use the highest resolution supported by the Insignia TV. Select "Yes" to save the settings.
