How to Wrap Toes for Ballet Pointe Work

Pointe work is extremely tough on your toes. However, there are ways to protect your toes to prevent blisters, callouses and other deformities. One such way is wrapping your toes before dancing. It's easy to do and can save you some pain in the long run as well as the short run, with no torn skin and bloody toes.

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Medical Tape
  • Toe Spacers
  • Bandages
  • Mole Skin
  • Nail Clippers

Start by looking at your feet. Clean any cuts, blisters or calluses with some water and hydrogen peroxide. Dry them after they are completely clean. Then clip your toenails short in clean and crisp lines. Cover your cuts and blisters with bandages.

Cut pieces of mole skin to cover calluses and callus or blister prone areas. Stick the mole skin on these areas so they won't rub against the inside of your shoes and make matters worse.

Take some white medical tape and wrap it around the big toe from just below the joint up to the line of the toe nail. Repeat on the second toe as well as the small or baby toe. Repeat on both feet.

Place a toe spacer between the large toe and second toe. Then cover the toes with a toe pad. One area that is often overlooked it the back of the ankle. You may find that you get blisters on the back of your ankles, so make sure you cover them with strips of moleskin.

Tip

Shave or wax any hair on your toes so you can avoid the painful tape removal process.

Warnings:

  • Don't wrap the tape too tight or it will cut into your skin.
