Loom knitting is a style of knitting done by using a knitting loom and hook. This technique of knitting is especially popular among those who find knitting needles to be too cumbersome and require too much dexterity. The knitting loom can also offer an alternative method of knitting for those with joint and arthritic-related issues. Bunny ears are a relatively basic project to knit on a loom and are made using only fundamental stitches such as e-wrap, purl and decrease.
Make a slip knot in your yarn, leaving about 6 inches of extra tail. Loop your slip knot over the first peg. E-wrap around pegs 2,3 and 4. Bring the yarn around to the front of peg 5, wrap around back inside the loom, then e-wrap pegs 4 back through 1. Knit pegs 1 through 4.
E-wrap pegs 1 and 2 and knit off. Purl peg 3. E-wrap pegs 4 and 5 and knit off. E-wrap pegs 5 back through 1 and knit off. Repeat this step five more times.
Move the loop from peg 5 to peg 4. E-wrap pegs 1 and 2 and knit off. Purl peg 3. E-wrap peg 4 and knit off. Move the loop from peg 1 to peg 2. E-wrap pegs 4 through 2 and knit off. Move the loop on peg 4 to peg 3. Move the loop on peg 2 to peg 3. E-wrap and knit off. Row 13: Move the loop on peg 5 to peg 4. E-wrap pegs 1 – 2 and knit off. Purl peg 3.
E-wrap peg 3 and knit off. Cut the yarn, leaving about 12 inches of tail. E-wrap the peg again and knit off. Thread the tail onto a yarn needle sew along the side of the ear to create the desired in the bunny ear. Weave in any loose ends. This completes one bunny ear. Repeat Steps 1 thought 4 for a second bunny ear. Use a piece of yarn and a yarn needle to attach the ears to a bunny head.
