Halloween costumes are often difficult to decide on, and often cumbersome to wear. Why not dress like TV's most celebrated diagnostician, Gregory House. Portrayed by British actor Hugh Laurie, House's character has a distinctive personality, dress and style.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cane
  • Oxford Dress Shirt
  • Dark, Solid Colored T-Shirt
  • Slim Straight Jeans (No Tears Or Holes)
  • Tennis Shoes
  • Sports Jacket Or Blazer
  • Cork

Rather than tweed jackets, House wears a blazer or sport jacket. Usually considered "smart casual" attire, his jackets are usually solid shades of black. It should fit comfortably, and not too tight. Leave it unbuttoned.

You have options of what to wear under the blazer, as House alternates between wrinkled oxford dress shirts over dark T-shirts or printed T-shirts. Most of his T-shirts are rock oriented or retro styled. Dress shirts must be worn untucked, with the inside T-shirt tucked. Top buttons are not fastened, and no tie is worn.

Grab a pair of slender, straight cut jeans. Denim should not be frayed or carpenter style. The jeans should fit snug at the waist and down to the thigh, sitting above the shoes. When in doubt, try Levi's 501 Originals or 514 Slim Straights.

Shoes are an important statement; House wears sneakers. Occasionally wearing Converse Chucks, House has also been seen wearing Nike Cortez or Shox.

Include a simple cane, held in the wrong hand (his right hand). His right leg is also the injured leg, so keep that in mind. Even though it is biomechanically incorrect to hold the cane on the same side as the injury, House prefers to use his dominant hand. The cane he uses throughout the series changes, but his most recognizable cane is the flame tipped black cane.

Add some burnt cork as a 5 o'clock shadow, a bit of hairspray on untidy bed hair, and a gloomy, tired face. Congratulations, you are now Gregory House!

Remember to limp: It is essential to the performance.
