How to Make Lady Bug Wings

  • Coil of16-gauge wire
  • Wire snips
  • Black felt
  • Red felt
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
Make your child ladybug wings and get ready for make believe fun.

Made with simple materials and constructed easily, ladybug wings are perfect for the little lady bug in your life. Whether used for a Halloween costume or as an addition to your dress-up bin, handmade ladybug wings will delight your child. Pair with a simple dress or a ladybug outfit. Wear an antennae headband and get ready for some make believe fun.

Shape the wire into a long, thin oval shape for the base of the wings. Snip the wire off the coil and wrap the ends of the wire body around each other to secure. The size will depend on the size of the intended wearer. Measure the child from the shoulder blades to the high waist to determine the length of the wing body.

Shape the wire into a large oval shape for the wings. Snip the wire. Attach it to the base by wrapping the wire securely around the base at the top and at the bottom on both sides. Repeat for the second wing.

Cover the wings with red felt. Smooth the felt over the entirety of the wing. Wrap the felt around the wire and secure it into place by gluing the felt to the wire with the hot glue.

Cut four to eight circles out of the black felt. Position the circles on the wings and secure into place with the hot glue.

Cut four lengths of red ribbon, each approximately 12 inches in length. Tie one ribbon on each side of the base of the wings at the top and at the bottom.

Cover the base with red felt, smoothing it over the entirety of the body base and covering up any wire showing. Wrap it around the wire and secure by gluing the felt to the wire with hot glue.
