How to Re-Cover a Coin-Operated Pool Table

Pool table baize gets worn out and will need replacing. Pay and play pool tables with coin operated mechanisms will probably get far more use than a home pool table. Coin operated pool tables are usually in bars, clubs and public meeting places and will probably need re-covering far more readily than lesser used tables. When your coin operated pool table needs to be re-covered you will also need to remark it and re-cover the cushions.

Remove the trim from around the edges of the pool table. Locate the bolts that fit to the cushion edges and remove them with the socket wrench. Take the cushions off one at a time and examine the resistance of the rubber. Cushion rubber will dry up over time and you will find they become less effective and have less response to the ball. Take off the existing baize on the cushions and replace the rubber if needed.

Lift the slate from the pool table. You will definitely need an extra pair of hands or two to help with lifting and placing it down for repair. Place the slate across the three work benches, or support horses, making the sure the middle is supported.

Strip the baize from the slate bed pool table. Once the cushions have been removed the entire playing surface will be exposed. The baize will have been glued to the slate but should lift off with some gentle persuasion. Once the entire baize has been removed, brush the slate surface with a fine wire brush to eliminate any residue material.

Wipe the slate surface with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Lay the new pool table baize cover over the entire slate surface and stretch it out to remove creases. Use the utility knife (or scissors) to cut the baize close to the bottom edge of the slate bed.

Employ the use of your extra pair of hands to help you re-cover the slate. Have your buddy hold the baize while you spray adhesive on the slate. Ask your buddy to place the leading edge of the baize onto the slate at the top end of the slate bed. Allow a hang over lip of material the same depth as the slate bed. Press the baize down and flat iron it to remove creases.

Trim off any loose baize. Carry the slate bed back to the table and set it back in place. Replace the cushions with the correct bolts and secure them back into the sides of the table. Replace the trim around the edge of the table and mark the apex spot on the new cover.
