Coins, washers or juice bottle caps turn your kid's shoes into homemade tap shoes. Pennies are glued on for permanent taps, while washers or bottle caps are tied on for temporary fun. It only takes a few minutes to turn a pair of sneakers into tap shoes.
Things You'll Need:
- Pennies
- Strong Glue
- Large, Flat Washers
- Large Metal Juice Bottle Caps
- Yarn
- Hammer
- Philips Screwdriver
- Shoes
Use a strong glue to secure pennies to the bottom of a pair of shoes. Cover the toe and the heel, spacing the pennies about 1/4-inch apart. Allow glue to dry before using the tap shoes.
Tie a large, flat metal washer to the toe of your child's shoe with yarn. Cut a 12-inch piece of yarn. Lay it flat and place the washer over the center of it. Wrap each end of the yarn around one side of the washer. Have your child step on the washer with the toe of their shoe. Wrap the yarn around, and tie it in place over the top of the foot. Repeat with a second washer, tying the washer to the heel of the same shoe, by wrapping the yarn in front of your child's ankle. Repeat with the other two washers on the other foot.
Use a screwdriver and hammer to punch two holes in each of two metal juice bottle caps. The holes should be 1/2 inch apart. Thread a 12-inch length of yarn through the first hole from the inside of the cap and through the second from the top of the cap. Have your child step on the cap with the toe of their shoe and tie the yarn in place over the top of the foot. Repeat with second cap.
