Peacock feathers have vibrant colors and long plumes. Male peacocks use the flamboyant feathers to stand out from the crowd and attract a mate. The feathers usually have turquoise with blue or purple accents. Use peacock feathers to decorate a dress. A dress decorated with peacock feathers would be an eye-catching outfit for a formal dance or for a costume party.
Things You'll Need:
- Peacock Feathers
- Scissors
- Beads
- Hot Glue Gun
- Needle
- Dress
- Thread
Glue one bead to the quill end of one of your peacock feathers by placing the feather's end inside of the bead and adding a small dab of hot glue, without covering the entire hole. Repeat with each feather and allow the glue to cool completely before proceeding. These beads will give your dress a finished look, rather than having bare quill ends sticking out on your garment.
Place your dress on a work surface and arrange the feathers on your dress the way you want them.
Sew a feather onto the dress by passing the thread through dress in the place you want to secure the feather, then through the bead several times. You may need to gently pierce the glue with the needle if you accidentally covered the bead's opening. Sew the bead onto the dress, knotting securely with the first end of thread. This will allow the feather to swing freely and help avoid breaking the feathers when you move or sit in the dress. Repeat with each feather.
Tip
Add as many feathers as you like using this method, from a few simple flourishes to a dress completely covered in feathers. Pick the look that you like before purchasing any feathers, so you don't end up with too many or too few.
