A pixie hood is a simple hood with a pointed tip at the back of the head. It is a great way to keep warm, and it is perfect for a young child or an adult with a playful attitude towards life. Pixie hoods are simple to make in a short amount of time. If you really want to simplify your project, you can use felt, wool or another fabric that does not fray. This way, you don't even need to hem your hood.

Starting 2 inches above your forehead, measure from the center of your head down to a point directly under the middle of your chin. Add 1 inch to this measurement. This is where your pixie hood will tie. This is measurement A.
Measure from the step 1 ending point underneath your chin to the back of your neck. Add 1 inch to this measurement. This is measurement B.
Using a pencil and a piece of paper, draw two lines that meet at a 90-degree angle. Make the vertical line as long as measurement A and the horizontal line as long as measurement B. The horizontal line represents the bottom of your hood.
Add 4 inches to measurement B.
Draw a third line parallel to the horizontal line on your pattern, starting from the top of the vertical line. When you are done, you will have block C shape.
Draw a line connecting the two open ends. This will form an irregular square.
Cut out this shape. It is your pattern.
Cut out two pieces of fabric using the pattern you created in step 7.
Place the two pieces of fabric together, pattern--or right--sides facing eachother. Make sure that all the edges match. Pin the two sides together.
Sew the two longest edges of the fabric together.
Cut two lengths of ribbon to about 8 inches in length.
Sew the the ribbons to the points where the first two lines from your pattern intersected. These will be on either side of your chin when you wear the hood.
Hem the hood, if necessary, by turning the raw edges down towards the wrong side of the fabric and sewing them flat. If you used felt or wool, this is not necessary.
Turn the hood pattern side out. It is now ready to wear.
