There are several ways to make a violin mute. Of course, you can always purchase one from your local music store; there are plenty of styles and types. But what if you've lost your mute and you need one in a hurry? Mutes can be put together with everyday materials and very little time and effort.
Things You'll Need:
- Dollar Bill
- Wooden Clothespin (Clip Style)
- Or
Fold a dollar (or any denomination) bill in half lengthwise, and then in half end to end.
Fold once more lengthwise.
Weave the bill through the strings between the violin bridge and the tailpiece.
Clip a clothespin onto the bridge of your violin for an instant mute.
Take care not to scratch the instrument with the clothespin.
Clip the clothespin on the G-string side of the bridge, so that it will not interfere with the bow.
