How to Make a Display Case for Shark Teeth
Lay your frame face down and remove glass, cardboard mat, and backing. Put your cardboard mat onto the quilt batting and trace the outline onto the quilt batting. Using your scissors, cut the quilt batting to the same size as the cardboard mat. Glue the quilt batting to the cardboard and sit aside for approximately one hour or until dry.
Measure and cut the velvet fabric to 12" x 15" size. Place velvet fabric face down and place the batting face down on top, making sure to center in the middle of the fabric. Pull the sides of the fabric firmly over the batting and staple to the cardboard mat. It is important to fold the corners and gather tightly before stapling so that no creases will be seen on the finished display.
While still laying face down, arrange your shark teeth in the way you will want them displayed. Pick each one up, mark where the center of the shark tooth was laying and set aside. Once all of the marks are complete, gently poke a hole through the cardboard mat, taking care not to poke completely through to the velvet fabric as this may create flaws.
Next, cut an 8 inch length of wire and wrap around the shark tooth in a figure eight pattern, leaving approximately 4 to 6 inches loose. Place the shark tooth on the velvet and gently poke the remaining wire through the fabric into the holes in the cardboard mat. Repeat for the remaining shark teeth then carefully lay face down. Twist the loose wire together, then using duct tape, adhere so that the shark teeth will remain securely fastened.
Finally, fit the display back into the wood frame, then replace backing. You may need to staple the backing in the corners to be sure it will stay in the frame. Turn display over, smooth any creases and hang.
