Decorative pillows placed on your sofa or bed can add a feeling of comfort and warmth to the space. Pillows with removable, machine-washable covers are easy to care for and allow you the freedom to change the cover to match the season. But finding an affordable pillow cover that matches your style is not always possible. In that event, you can quickly make a pillow cover using the fabric of your choice.
Things You'll Need
- Sewing Machine
- Straight Pins
- Measuring Tape
- Fabric Chalk
- Stable Ironing Surface
- 16 X 16 Inch Pillow
- 32 X 18 Inch Preshrunk Fabric
Fold the short ends of the fabric over 1/2 inch and pin to secure. Iron the fold and remove the pins. Sew the ironed hem.
Lay the fabric on a stable surface. Place one short end in each hand and fold the fabric in half to find the center. Mark this point with fabric chalk.
Fold one of the hemmed ends 2 inches past the center. Face the finished side of the hem down. Fold the other hemmed end in the same manner. Both hemmed ends should overlap 2 inches and the fabric should now form a square.
Iron the folds. Sew the open sides of the square shut.
Turn the pillow cover by pulling it right-side-out through the open center. Insert the pillow through opening.
Decorate your pillow cover by sewing on buttons or ribbons or gluing on craft jewels.
