How to Make a Cat Pillow

Things Needed

  • 3/4 yard fabric
  • Sewing machine (optional)
  • Thread
  • Fluff or cotton
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Fabric paint
  • Ribbon (optional)
Keep your real cats away from your sewing kits.

Cat shaped pillows are cute and can be modified to fit in any decor. Choose a fabric to match the room the pillow will be kept in. For instance, a nautical themed room may use blue and white fabric for the cat's body and a rope for the collar with a gold star tag. Or sew together a black cat with an orange face for Halloween. Whatever the use, a cat pillow will add sweetness and comfort to any room.

Fold 45" wide fabric across the width to create a wide rectangle. Print out one of the sewing patterns found in the reference section. Lay the pattern on top of the fabric and pin it down. Cut out each piece from the top and bottom layers of the fabric.

Hand stitching or using a sewing machine, sew together the pieces of the head with the decorative sides facing in. Leave a small opening for stuffing. Repeat with the hind leg and front paws.

Sew together the pieces of the body. Leave a small opening at the base where the tail will be attached. Turn all the pieces right side out. Stuff each item tightly with fluff. Hand stitch each item closed, leaving the body for last. Place the end of the tail slightly inside the opening of the body and stitch into place.

Stitch the paws and head onto the body. Paint a face onto the cat's head. Tie a ribbon around the cat's neck.

Tip

Use holiday themed fabrics to make holiday decorative cat pillows.

Make several cats and paint a different face on each.
