When an important event is approaching, you don't want to find out too late that there's not enough time to create your cake decorations. Gum paste flowers require a large investment of time; however, the results are usually well worth the effort. Planning in advance can help you achieve a beautiful-looking cake.

Time Frame

Be creative, but always plan ahead for your gum paste decorations.

Place your gum paste flower or decoration carefully on a piece of wax paper. Turn the piece once a day to make sure it dries evenly. Drying time can vary between a few days to a week, depending on the thickness of your gum paste decoration.

Tips

Use a fan to speed up drying time for your gum paste flowers.

Place your gum paste decoration in front of a fan to speed up drying time. If you want the air to reach all sides of your decoration, lay it on pieces of Styrofoam that have been rubbed with cornstarch. Place your piece next to a heat source, such as an oven light or other high-temperature light, to aid in the drying process.

Warning

Never use a stove to help dry your gum paste flowers.

Never use an oven, even at low temperatures, to aid in the drying of your gum paste decoration. Oven heat cooks the decorations rather than drying them.
