Dress up your fall table decor with some leather feather napkin rings. They're easy to customize with a little paint and perfect for adding a festive touch to any Thanksgiving place setting.
Cut Feather Shapes
Using scissors, cut feather shapes out of the leather in the shape of a raindrop. Make them about 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the widest spot. Cut as many feather shapes as you want napkin rings.
Cut Out Notches
On a cutting mat, use a utility knife to cut out notches from the edges of the feathers to create the desired look.
Add Tape and Paint (Optional)
If you want to add some color to the feathers, tape off the part you don't want painted. Then brush craft paint over the feather. After the paint has dried, remove the tape.
Cut 1-inch vertical slits in the bottom of the feathers, spaced about 1/2 inch apart.
Insert the Strap
Weave a 6-inch leather strap through the slits on the bottom of the feather. Center the feather on the strap.
Cut Slits in the Strap
On the end of each strap, 1/2 inch from the edge, cut a slit from the top down, stopping 1/4 inch from the bottom. Then repeat on the other end but cut from the bottom up.
Weave the Strap Together
Loop the strap around so the back slits match up, and weave the strap together.
Continue to add straps until you complete all of your napkin rings.
