  • Nylon fabric
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Plastic bags

Many people who use plastic grocery bags toss them into the garbage after use. However, plastic grocery bags can add to the increasing size of landfills. One solution is to use the plastic bags in a new way, such as making sit upon mats using the bags as the stuffing. Once your plastic bag mats are complete, they can be used to sit on when you are outside or at a sporting event.

Cut out two rectangles from nylon fabric that measure 18-inches wide by 24-inches long.

Place the rectangles with their right sides together, lining up the edges.

Sew along the perimeter of the rectangles, leaving a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave 3-inches unsewn.

Turn the rectangle form right side out.

Stuff the form with plastic grocery bags. You can use about 10 to 15 bags for a flatter mat, or you can use 20 bags or more for a fuller mat.

Turn down the edges of the opening and sew it closed. You can use your mat to sit on when you attend a sporting event or picnic.
