Crafts for "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe"

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" is the first book in C.S. Lewis' epic fantasy series "The Chronicles of Narnia." The story follows the Pevensie children as they are sent to live with a family friend during the second world war. They stumble across an old wardrobe, a doorway to a fantastical world that results in adventures beyond their wildest dreams. Make crafts inspired by the book and subsequent film.

Edible Crafts

Create edible craft projects based on "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," such as lion cupcakes. Use yellow frosting as the base color for the lion face, as well as licorice strips for the whiskers, brown M&Ms for the eyes and nose and orange frosting for the lion mane. Cakes may also be made into sword shapes with white and black frosting mixed together to create a silver sword appearance. Place red fruit punches and drinks in elaborate goblets as a version of Lucy's healing cordial, given to her by Father Christmas in the story. If you have the resources, try placing the liquid in cordial bottles. Lucy's bottle looks like a small, crystal flask with beaded edges.

Plush Crafts

There are a variety of plush crafts that can be made based on "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," either from craft patterns or your own design. Ideas include Aslan, the lion leader of Narnia, as well as various woodland characters from the film, including the beavers that hide the Pevensie family, the wolf henchmen of the White Witch and the coyote guide in league with the Pevensies. Those that are especially skilled at making plush toys might want to consider making a Mr. Tumnus, the faun that befriends Lucy Pevensie.

Paper Crafts

Paper craft ideas for "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" include drawing Narnia designs on paper bags to make book covers or creating collages consisting of printed images from the film as well as your own artistic renderings of the scenes described in the book. Your collage could also be themed, featuring images of Aslan versus the White Witch or the centaurs fighting the minotaurs. Other ideas for paper crafts include paper plate masks of Aslan and other Narnia woodland creatures or Narnia images, like the lamppost or the stone table, drawn on card stock as bookmarks.

Recycled Material Crafts

Use up your recyclables by making crafts based on "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." For example, you can make a sculpture of Aslan out of newspaper paper mache. Cut the tops off of four 20 oz. bottles to use as legs. Sculpt the head, tail and body out of paper mache using balloons as the base for the head and body, and perhaps wrapping the tail paper mache pieces around a long twisted up piece of newspaper. Use paper to make the paws and brown tissue paper or brown pom poms for the mane. Goldish-brown paint can be used to paint the sculpture. This model can be used to make other Narnia animals as well. Other ideas for recycled material crafts include making Lucy's dagger and Peter's sword out of old cardboard (such as cardboard boxes) and tin foil.
