If you collect old marbles, you may be wondering how to clean your collection of tiny glass treasures. Marbles that have been played with in the dirt may be coated with a layer of grime and dust. Even marbles that have been safely stored could have lost their luster. Don't hand clean them one by one--wash them by the bowlful.
Place your marbles in the kitchen strainer, or colander. Place in the sink and rinse with warm water. Swish the marbles around with your hand. This first step is to remove most of the dirt, especially if your marbles have been played with outside.
Transfer marbles to a large mixing bowl. If your collection is very large, only fill the bowl about half way. Fill the bowl with warm water. Make sure there's an inch or 2 of water above the marbles.
Add a denture tablet. Allow marbles to soak in the fizzy water for about 20 minutes.
Drain the marbles through the kitchen strainer, and rinse with warm water. Place marbles on a large towel to dry.
