Beautiful size 12 to 20 models are in high demand at Torrid, a plus-size clothing store chain. Torrid, which was founded in 2001, now has over 150 stores in shopping malls across the United States, as well as a website that features online ordering. Modeling for this popular clothing store's website means national exposure and can lead to a bright future in the plus sized modeling world.
The first step is to have the right "look" and to be at least 16 years of age. Torrid models are between a size 12 and 20 and must live in or have their own transportation to Southern California, as that is where the companies offices are located. Modeling "go-sees" are arranged during the work week only.
If you are a professional model who resides in Southern California, contact your agent about sharing your portfolio or head shots with Torrid. While Torrid works with professional plus-sized models, they are also receptive to aspiring new models who are unsigned by an agency.
If you are not a professional model, have some high-quality photographs taken of yourself for the Torrid model application process. These can be taken at a mall photo studio or even by a friend who is good with a camera. Be sure to present yourself in the best light by wearing hip and fashionable clothing, hair and makeup and by making sure that the photographs are taken in a well-lit environment that will show you looking your best. Have several pictures taken of you, both close-ups and full-length shots.
To apply for a modeling position Torrid requests that you send two recent photographs of yourself. One should be a headshot and the other should be a full body image. When applying be sure to also include other pertinent information including your name and contact information as well as what size clothing and shoes you wear. If you opt to mail in your submissions be sure to put your name and contact information on the back of all photographs. Contact information, including the Torrid mailing address and email address, can be found on the Torrid website modeling info page.
Models who are not local to Southern California and are unable to travel to the location should visit the Torrid website regularly to see when the company announces one of their modeling contests. Those women who are selected as finalists are flown to the company headquarters to participate in the contest with all expenses paid.
