What Are the Benefits of Trance Music?

Trance music is a style of electronic dance music (EDM) that is widely popular all over the world. Trance usually has a beats per minute (BPM) of 125 to 150. The music is characterized by hard-hitting bass, melodic synthesizers and euphoric vocals. The name "trance" is taken from the effect it has on some listeners of inducing a trance-like state.

Energy

The uplifting and high-energy effect the music has is one reason it's so popular. The pumping bass-lines and energetic chords get most listeners energized. Listening to trance music can be an excellent way to perk up energy levels or enhance the liveliness of a party.

Focus

Trance is has repetitive bass lines and the songs are progressive with sections that build up and others that break downs. This steady rhythm can help concentration and focus. Non-vocal trance in particular can be used as good background music when working or studying; it is non-invasive and keeps a tempo going.

Altered States

Listening to trance in a calm meditative environment can produce feelings of altered states. The repetitive bass lines of trance are similar to those used in shamanic ceremonies for vision quests. The electronic tones, deep bass and crisp synthesizers can create an out-of-this-world experience for listeners. Trance music is excellent for creative visualization.

Music Appreciation

Trance music, except for the vocals, is almost entirely digital. The music is typically very well produced; the levels, mixing and engineering are clean. Listeners are able to dissect the different elements of music and develop an ear for the subtler audio tracks in a song. For example, some songs may have up to 50 channels for the listener to explore. Trance music helps develop a good ear for how music is mixed and composed.
