Plumeria flowers, also known as plumeria rubra and frangipani, are tropical flowers planted to scent gardens and are used in the making of leis because they are less prone to bruising. After being picked, delicate plumeria flowers can be preserved for up to 24 hours by soaking them in water, or for up 48 hours by refrigerating them.

Things You Will Need

  • Refrigerator
  • Paper Towels
  • Cold Water

Pick the plumeria flowers close to the bottom of the stem where they join the tree so as not to crush the five-pointed petals.

Place the plumeria flowers in a bowl of cold water at 33 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.

Remove the flowers from the cold water. Blot them gently with paper towels. Add them to corsages, hair arrangements or leis, which will keep for up to one day.

    Refrigeration

Gently pick the plumeria flowers close to the bottom of the stem where they join the tree so as not to crush the five-pointed petals.

Construct leis, hair arrangements or corsages with the plumeria flowers.

Put the leis or corsages on racks in a refrigerator, ensuring that the petals are not crushed by other objects such as vases or flower arrangements.

Remove and use the leis or corsages within two days, as the plumeria flowers will start to turn brown after that period of time.
