How to Make Temporary Tattoo Paint

Temporary tattoos are a hit at childrens' parties.

Tattoos are indelible marks, pictures or words on the skin, usually made by puncturing the skin with a needle and inserting ink. According to a 2008 Harris Poll, 14 percent of the US population claims to have one or more tattoos. Out of those with tattoos, 16 percent regret having gotten them. Fortunately, there are temporary tattoo alternatives, which allow you to test out a tattoo before deciding to have your body permanently marked. Temporary tattoo paint can also be used to add to a Halloween costume or just for fun with children.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Tbsp. Flour
  • 3 Tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • Food Coloring
  • 3/4 Cup Light Corn Syrup
  • Small Resealable Containers
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Mixing Spoon

Put the cornstarch and flour in the mixing bowl and stir.

Add the corn syrup and water slowly to the cornstarch and flour mixture. Continue stirring until the ingredients reach a smooth consistency.

Divide the mixture evenly among the small storage containers. Make sure that you have enough containers for the number of colors you want, as you'll make a different color in each container.

Add one or two drops of food coloring to each container and mix. If you're not satisfied with the color, add another drop or two and mix. Continue adding food coloring to and mixing each color until you've reach your desired colors.

Tip

Let each color dry before layering another color on top. Apply paint in thin layers to reduce drying time. Add different paint colors together to get new colors. Add body glitter to the paint mixes to make your tattoo paint sparkle.
