How to Make Pixie Dust for Kids

How to make edible pixie dust.

Add some magic to your kids fairy adventures with edible pixie dust. They can sprinkle it around outside or add it to their favorite sweet treat. It’s easy to make and safe to eat.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sugar
  • Liquid food coloring
  • Edible glitter
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Fork
  • Cookie sheet
  • Tin foil
  • Decorative container

Add Sugar and Coloring to Mixing Bowl

Pour 1/2 cup of sugar into the mixing bowl. Add 7-10 drops of liquid food coloring to the sugar. You can add more once you start mixing if the color isn’t bright enough.

Mix the Coloring and Sugar Together

Press the color drops into the sugar using a fork. Mix until all the clumps are gone and you’ve reached your desired color.

Allow Sugar to Dry

Line a cookie sheet with tin foil and spread the sugar out. Allow the sugar to air dry for about an hour.

Tip

Make sure the sugar is completely dry before storing. If you store it without drying, it could clump together.

Pour into Decorative Container

Using a funnel or measuring cup, pour the colored sugar into a decorative container.

Add edible glitter for some extra sparkle. Shake to mix.
