Paper ice cream parlour hats are a perfect craft for ice cream sundae themed parties.

Nothing screams ice cream parlor like a classic ice cream parlor chef hat. Help children to make an ice cream parlor hat out of paper and enjoy hours of make-believe play. Homemade paper hats can also serve as a budget-friendly means to creating a DIY Halloween costume. Paper hats can be made quickly out of materials you already have at home. Whip up this simple craft at an ice cream sundae-themed birthday party and have everyone screaming for ice cream in no time.

Cut one long rectangle out of the white poster board. The rectangle should be approximately 4 inches tall and 24 inches long.

Wrap the poster board rectangle around the head of the ice cream parlor hat wearer in a circle. Mark where the ends of the rectangle overlap when fit snuggly around their head. Staple the rectangle together where the ends overlap creating a ring shape. Cut off any excess poster board sticking out past where the ends are stapled together.

Staple the bottom right corner of a piece of tissue paper to the inside of the poster board ring. Staple the top right corner of the tissue paper to the inside of the poster board ring and to the left of the first staple. If the first staple is situated at the 12 o'clock position the second should be placed at the 11 o'clock position. The tissue paper will fold over beginning to create the poofy portion of the ice cream parlour hat. The larger your piece of tissue paper is in size, the larger the poofing portion of your hat will be.

Staple the bottom left corner of the tissue paper to the inside of the poster board ring directly opposite the first staple. If the first staple was situated at the 12 o'clock position the third staple should be placed at the 6 o'clock position. Staple the top left corner of the tissue paper to the inside of the poster board ring and to the left of the bottom left corner at the 7 o'clock position.

Continue stapling the tissue paper to the inside of the poster board ring all along the inside edge until it is completely attached to the inside of the hat.

Put a small piece of tape over each staple on the inside of the hat to keep the staples from ripping through the tissue paper or getting snagged on the hair of the ice cream parlor hat wearer.

Tip

Use a paper punch to punch out small circles from brightly colored construction paper. Glue the construction paper circles onto the tissue paper before constructing your hat and add a splash of "sugary sprinkles" to the top of your ice cream parlour paper hat.
