How to Make a Statue of Liberty Costume. The Statue of Liberty is a popular American patriotic costume. Whether you need the outfit for a school play or perhaps for Halloween, it's easy and inexpensive to make with only a few simple household items.
Dye the sheet green and allow to dry completely if starting with a white sheet.
Cut a piece of green poster board to make a cone shape for the torch. If you have to use white poster board, paint it green and allow to dry before continuing with the torch. Roll poster board into a cone and glue to secure.
Take yellow tissue paper and stuff into the cone to mimic a flame from the torch.
Cut another piece of green poster board in the shape of a crown. Outline with black marker. Glue the crown to a headband to help keep it on.
Tie your green sheet on like a toga. You may want to use safety pins to secure the sheet in place. If you sew, a few stitches could be added to make dress pleats.
Paint your face green using face paint. You may want to paint exposed skin green also, or wear long sleeves and pants in the same color of green.
