If you are putting together a bumble bee costume, a simple way to finish it off is with a bee themed T-shirt. Using a yellow shirt and some black fabric paint, you can make the main piece of your costume, finishing it off with just a few other accessories, like leggings, an antennae headband, wings and a stinger. The bee T-shirt is quick and easy to make, and a cheap alternative to purchasing a pre-made bee costume from a specialty store.
Things You'll Need:
- Newspaper
- Ruler
- Foam Paint Brush
- Black Permanent Marker
- Yard Stick
- Black Electrical Tape
- Yellow T-Shirt
- Square Of Cardboard
- Black Fabric Paint
Painted Shirt
Lay a yellow T-shirt flat on a table in front of you. Slip a rectangle of cardboard, about the same width and height of the shirt's chest area, inside the T-shirt to prevent paint from bleeding through.
Paint a 2-inch thick stripe horizontally at the top of the T-shirt, making the stripe stretch from one side to the other. Use black fabric paint and a foam paint brush.
Continue painting stripes horizontally down the shirt, making each stripe 2 inches apart. Use a ruler to ensure the stripes are evenly spaced.
Lay a sheet of newspaper under the shirt and let dry for at least 12 hours.
Repeat steps 2 to 4 on the back side of the T-shirt, so it matches the front.
Alternative Ways to Make the Stripes
Use black electrical tape to make the stripes of the bee shirt. Wrap the tape around the perimeter of the shirt, trimming off excess tape. Make sure the stripes are each the same distance apart, about 1 inch each.
Use a black permanent marker to draw the stripes onto the shirt. Use a yardstick to draw straight, horizontal lines along the shirt, making sure the stripes wrap around from the front to the back of the shirt. Make each stripe about 1 inch wide, coloring it in with the marker. Make the stripes about 1inch apart each.
