Things Needed

  • Shoebox with lid
  • Paint, markers or crayons
  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Magazines
  • Decorative items (glitter, fabric)
  • Cotton
  • Soft fabric

Memories are very special. So are things that remind you of those memories such as photos, letters and jewelry. It's usually expensive to buy a safe keepsake box. It may mean more if you create one yourself and keep your memory keepsakes in the box you created. Making one is simple, and doesn't take much time at all.

Cover the shoebox and lid with the construction paper. Glue the paper in place and let it dry.

Spread about a 1-inch-thick layer of cotton on the bottom of the inside of the box.

Lay your piece of soft fabric over the cotton, being sure to cover it all. Staple it in place. It should create a pillow-like cushion at the bottom of the box.

Cut out images or words from magazines. Use markers, paints and glitter to decorate the outside of your box.

Place keepsakes in the box. Store the box in a safe, dry area, like under your bed or on a shelf in your closet.
