Any occasion that calls for a costume also demands props and accessories to add a finishing touch. For a knight or a Native American, a spear is a good complement to the ensemble, but carrying around a real spear can be dangerous. Make safety a priority and craft a spear out of cardboard that even a child can carry without fear of being hurt by it.

Draw a line along the entire length of the box 2½ inches from the edge. Use the yard stick as a straight edge to keep your line straight.
Cut the box along the line with the box cutter. You should have a long rectangle, 2½ inches wide by 3½ to 4 feet tall.
Draw a triangle with two long sides of 9 inches and one short side of 6 inches from the remaining parts of the box.
Cut out this triangle with the box cutter. Use this shape as a template to draw and cut an identical triangle from the cardboard.
Wrap the entire length of the cardboard rectangle with the brown duct tape. This will give the spear a decorative, wooden look and add strength to it.
Glue the two triangles 1½ to 2½ inches below the top of the rectangle. You will have one triangle on either side.
Let the glue dry completely before wrapping the aluminum foil around both the triangles. It will look like your spear has a metal triangular tip.
