How to Make a Birthday Banner

By Bethany Culp

A birthday banner can be a fun and colorful way to decorate for a birthday party. Though there are many companies that make banners, these printed varieties can be expensive. With a few art supplies and a little creativity, almost anyone can make his own birthday banner.

Purchase a roll of butcher paper. Purchasing paper on a roll will allow you to customize the length of your banner.

Cut a piece of butcher paper to the desired length of your birthday banner.

Decide on the wording for your banner and write what you would like the banner to say. Use stencils to create the letters if you do not want the letters to appear handwritten.

Use art supplies to decorate the banner. In addition to drawing or painting directly on the paper, consider using materials like sequins, feathers and felt to create texture decorations.

Use double-sided tape to hang the banner.

Tip

If you do not want to purchase letter stencils, use a word processing program to print each of the letters needed for the sign in the appropriate size. Use scissors to cut out each letter. Either affix the letters to the banner with glue, or use a pencil to trace around each letter cut-out.

Allow any ink, paint or glue to dry thoroughly before hanging the birthday banner.
