How to Keep Flags From Fading

Outdoor flags are used as part of the decor on a front or back porch. They're often part of seasonal displays, including those for Halloween, Christmas and St. Patrick's Day, and especially for Fourth of July festivities, when Americans fly the U.S. flag. Though exposure to the sun will cause these flags to fade in time, you can slow the fading process by taking care of your flag and keeping it out of the sun when it's not in use.

Things You'll Need:

  • Soap And Water
  • Fabric Guard With Uv Protection

Spray the flag with a fabric protector product designed to create a layer on the fabric that suspends soils for easy cleaning. Use a fabric protector with UV protection to help prevent fading. Do this each time you hang the flag outside.

Wash flags after they have been outdoors. This will remove accumulated dirt and pollution, leaving the flag looking brighter for its next use.

Keep the flag stored in a dry, dark area away from all lighting, including both sunlight and artificial lighting.

Tip

Help maintain the look of your flag by hanging it so it does not flap against your home, trees or other objects.
