Use removable adhesive hangers to hold your canvas paintings without nails. Hook hangers are available in two styles: conventional hooks for pictures with a hanging wire, or sawtooth styles for canvases with a sawtooth hanger. Picture hanging strips, which come in two parts, similar to hook-and-loop fasteners, mount the canvas flat against the wall.
Things You'll Need:
- Rubbing alcohol
- Paper towel
- Tape measure or yardstick
- Level
Clean the wall area where you want to apply the hanger. Rub the wall gently with a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol and let it air dry.
Measure and mark with a pencil the location of the hanger. If you are using picture hanging strips, make a mark for each upper corner of the canvas. Use a level to make sure the marks are horizontally straight.
Peel off the liner paper that covers the adhesive and press the hook against the wall in the marked position. Press firmly and hold for 30 seconds.
If you are using picture hanging strips, snap the two halves together and remove the liner from the side that goes against the wooden frame of the canvas.
Place a strip pair at each side of the frame, aligned with the top corners.
Press firmly and hold for 30 seconds.
Remove the liner from the wall side of the strips and place the canvas at the marked location on the wall, checking with a level to make sure it's straight. '},{'content':'Press firmly and hold for 30 seconds. Lift the canvas from the bottom edge to peel it away from the strips on the wall.
Tip
If you want to use picture strips with a canvas that already has a picture wire or sawtooth hanger in place, remove the hardware to leave the canvas with a flat back.
Let the adhesive set for one hour before hanging the canvas. Place a sawtooth hanger or picture wire over the hook and position the canvas with a level so it is straight. With picture strips, place the top edge of the canvas against the top edge of the walls strips and push down on the canvas until the strips snap together.
Warnings:
- * Do not attempt to hang a canvas that exceeds the weight limit of the hanger. Most adhesive hangers will hold a canvas that weighs up to 5 pounds, but check the label warnings for your product. * Use adhesive hangers only on a wall surface that is stable and will not peel away. Do not use hangers on vinyl, paper or delicate wallpaper.
* Do not use the hangers to hold antique or irreplaceable paintings.
* Do not hang canvases over beds.
