Tip
Colored paper or a wallpaper remnant may be used instead of fabric to cover the cardboard.
Crocheted doilies, whether handmade or purchased, are commonly displayed on tabletops or the arms or backs of chairs and sofas. Framing provides an alternative option for displaying doilies. The only materials necessary for framing a doily are a frame, fabric that coordinates with your décor, a doily and a few simple tools. Framing doilies is an easy and inexpensive way to create unique art pieces for your home while protecting the doilies from dirt and damage.
Choose a frame large enough to display the doily.
Choose a fabric in a contrasting color to the doily to cover the cardboard in the back of the frame
Remove the back of the frame.
Remove the cardboard from the back of the frame and cover tightly with fabric, cutting off excess fabric.
Secure the edges of the fabric to the cardboard with tape or glue, if desired.
Position the doily on the fabric as desired. You may display the entire doily or only a portion of it.
Hold the doily in the desired position, flip the cardboard over and place into the frame.
Replace and secure the back of the frame. If the doily does not fit snugly between the glass and cardboard after the back of the frame has been replaced, remove the back of the frame and secure the doily to the cardboard with a few pins or drops of fabric glue.
