How to Dress Like the Fonz for Halloween

For a simple, yet specific, instantly recognizable costume, dress up as "The Fonz" for Halloween. A black leather jacket, white T-shirt and jeans take center stage for this costume emulating the look of Henry Winkler as Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli from the sitcom "Happy Days."

Things You'll Need:

  • Plain White Or Black Crew-Neck T-Shirt
  • Hair Wax, Pomade Or Gel
  • Black Leather Biker-Style Jacket
  • Blue Jeans, Slightly Faded
  • Black Pocket Comb
  • Black Motorcycle Boots

Wear a pair of slightly faded jeans that fit comfortably without being overly baggy or tight. Cuff the bottom of the jeans slightly, if desired. Sometimes Fonzie's jeans are cuffed, sometimes not.

Place a black plastic pocket comb in one of the back pockets of your jeans. Run the comb through your hair once in a while while you're dressed as The Fonz, striking a wide stance as you do so.

Put on a pair of black motorcycle boots or work boots. Pull the jeans down so they cover the top of the boots.

Put on a white or black plain crew-neck T-shirt, then the leather jacket over the T-shirt. Leave the jacket unzipped, or zip only the bottom 1/3 of the jacket, leaving most of your shirt visible.

Wet your hair over the sink by running a wet comb through it. Place gel, pomade or hair wax in your hair -- any product that keeps hair looking wet at all times -- combing the sides back. Comb the top toward the front using plenty of hair product to achieve the pompadour wet look common to 1950s greaser style.

Show a "double-thumbs-up" sign when you agree with others you meet or when you step into a room. Say "ayyyy" frequently while doing so, dropping an occasional "whoa" when not in agreement with a situation. Comb your hair in the mirror any time you see a mirror.

Tip

Enlist a few female friends to hang around with -- The Fonz naturally attracted women with little effort.

If you own a motorcycle, by all means, ride it to the Halloween event or park the bike out front, if the event is at your own home. Fonzie's chosen transportation is a motorcycle.

For added effect, print your own business cards using the name Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli. Make two sets: one with an illustration of The Fonz saying, "aayyy", another saying, "Sit on it." Hand out some of each card at a party whenever the mood hits.
