By Kefa Olang ; Updated September 15, 2017

Things Needed

  • HDMI cable
  • Component video cable
  • AV cable

Unlike previous PlayStation systems, PlayStation 3 (PS3) outputs content in high- and standard-definition. Whether you're playing games or videos, the gaming console outputs content in 1080p, 1080i, 720p and 480p. The output quality varies depending on the connection cable. Connecting your gaming console to your Sanyo LCD TV is quick process. These TVs provide a variety of connection methods, so you can choose how best to hook up your gaming console.

Using a AV Component Video Cable

Connect the AV connector on the Component Video Cable to the "AV MULTI OUT" connector located on the back of your PS3.

Connect the five pins on the Component Video Cable to the "COMPONENT VIDEO IN AUDIO IN" ports on the back of your Sanyo LCD TV. Match the colors on pins to the colors on the ports.

Turn on your TV, and then turn on your gaming console. Load a disc in the tray.

Press the "Input" button on your remote control repeatedly to select the AV channel to which your gaming console is connected. When you select the right channel, the PS3 XMB menu is displayed on your screen. Component video cables display content in HD quality.

Using an HDMI Cable

Connect one end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI OUT" connector located on the back of PS3, and then connect the other end to an open HDMI port on your Sanyo LCD TV. If your TV has more than one HDMI port, note down the one to which you're connecting your game.

Turn on your TV, and then turn on your gaming console.

Press the "Input" button on your remote control repeatedly to select the HDMI channel to which your gaming console is connected. If your HDMI ports are numbered, select the HDMI number to which you connected your game. When you select the right channel, the PS3 XMB menu is displayed on your screen. HDMI cables display pictures in HD resolutions.

Using an AV Cable

Connect the AV connector on your cable to the "AV MULTI OUT" connector on your PS3.

Connect the yellow, white and red pins on the cable to the yellow, red and white "VIDEO L-AUDIO-R" inputs on the back of your Sanyo LCD TV.

Turn on your TV, and then turn on your gaming console.

Press the "Input" button on your remote control repeatedly to select the AV channel to which your gaming console is connected. When you select the right channel, the PS3 XMB menu is displayed on your screen. AV cables display video in standard definition.

Warning

HDMI and component video cables are sold separately.
