How to carve a wooden heart
Draw the outline of a heart on a piece of paper approximately 4 inches high and 4 inches wide. When you have the outline the way you like, cut off the excess paper so you have just the heart shape.
Transfer the paper heart to your 1 x 4 x 4 inch wood block by laying the heart on top and drawing around the outside of the heart, leaving the outline on the wood block. Turn the block over and do the same thing on the other side.
Using a wood carving knife, begin taking small shavings off your redwood block. Small shavings will allow you to maintain control over the way the wooden heart is developing. Continue taking small amounts of wood off the block until you get to the outline you traced on the wood block. Once you get to the outlines, begin to round over the edges of your wooden heart by trimming with knife.
Sand wooden heart with a fine grit sandpaper to take off any nicks or rough edges. You have just carved a wooden heart.
