The 1930s and 1940s were times of great changes and innovations in history. There was the Great Depression, which led to massive unemployment, problems for agricultural workers and a sense of hopelessness, but eventually a sense of optimism. The silver screen was a major source of entertainment during these decades with actors and actresses such as Judy Garland, Clark Gable, Mae West, Lawrence Olivier and Spencer Tracy. Finally, there was World War II and the Nazi occupation of much of Europe, as well as the horrific holocaust involving millions of Jewish people.
One good category for a trivia game about these decades is one about the movies that were made during this time. Some good questions to ask include "How did the Great Depression affect Hollywood?," "What were Bette Davis's best movies of her career?," "In what year was 'The Wizard of Oz' released?" and "Name three of Clark Gable's most popular movies." The winner with the most correct answers can receive a gift card to a movie rental store.
World War II Trivia
Another good category is World War II trivia questions. For example, you can ask guests to name all of the Allied countries that fought in this war. Some other good questions are "What roles did women and minorities play in helping the war effort?," "What were the root causes of World War II?," "What did American families do to support soldiers during World War II?" and "How did World War II affect modern foreign policy?"
The Great Depression
Another idea is to ask questions about the Great Depression. Some questions you can ask include "Which regions of the United States were hit the hardest by the Great Depression and why?," "What social programs did President Franklin Roosevelt put in place as a result of the Great Depression?" and "What methods did American families use to be resourceful and survive the Great Depression?"
You can also ask questions about popular fashion styles from these decades. Some good questions to ask are "Which hairstyles were the most popular in the 1930s and 1940s?," "What outfits did women who worked in factories during the World War II era wear?" and "Which actresses during these decades influenced American fashion the most?"
