Foam is a versatile material that individuals use for craft projects, home improvement projects, and furniture due to its strong yet flexible qualities. To shape foam into a desired form, you can soften the material, which enables you to shape the foam in a less-complicated manner. To soften foam, there are a few procedures you must practice. Softening foam is a task any individual can complete in under five minutes.

Soften the foam by heating it with a blow dryer. Turn the blow dryer on low and apply heat evenly over the entire surface. Hold blow dryer 8 to 10 inches from the surface, and avoid holding the blow dryer in one spot for any length of time.

Squeeze foam firmly with your hands. The body can rapidly produce heat, which foam absorbs to create a soft, flexible material. This is one of the quickest ways to heat of foam to soften it, however, it will only stay soft for under 30 seconds once you let go. You must work quickly with the foam.

Apply a small amount of water to the foam. Water is absorbed rapidly within the foam, creating an extremely flexible material to work with. Do not apply glue to wet foam. Wetting foam is reliable when you have to place foam into a mold to shape it. The foam will harden into the desired shape. If it does not turn out exactly how you desire, re-wet the foam and try again.
