A string scarf is an accessory that can fashionably accent sweaters, T-shirts and outerwear. There are limitless color combinations when making a homemade string scarf. Leftover yarn from previous craft projects or new skeins are prime candidates for string scarf material. The process is simple and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. The most time-consuming part of the project is cutting the many strands of yarn necessary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Yardstick
  • Yarn

Measure and cut 24 strands of yarn, each from 64 to 84 inches long, depending on the desired length of the finished scarf.

Hold one end of all 24 strands of yarn together. Tie all the strands into one knot approximately 4 inches from the end and trim the yarn ends evenly to avoid snagging.

Smooth out the length of yarn and tie the strands together at the other end of the scarf. Trim the ends.

Tip

Make a string scarf from one color or many colors; use one kind or multiple kinds of yarn. Fuzzy, bumpy, flat and curly yarn give a different character to each scarf.

For added interest, add a knot in the exact center of the strands or put two knots at each end.
