How to Remove Spots on Brass Lamps

The centerpiece of your end table and the source of reading light in the late evenings, your brass lamp can play an important role in your home. As you gaze upon it contemplating all the reasons you love your lamp, you’re taken aback to find dark spots marring its lovely appearance. Brass is unfortunately quite susceptible to tarnish, a slow type of corrosion. These spots may look unsightly now, but in a few short minutes you can completely remove them.

Things You'll Need:

  • Flour
  • Table salt
  • White vinegar
  • Clean cloth
  • Dish soap

Warnings:

  • Make sure the lamp is completely dry before plugging it back in.

Unplug the lamp, and move it to an area where it’s easy for you to work on cleaning it.

Mix 1 tbsp. of flour, 1 tbsp. of table salt and 1 tbsp. of white vinegar into a thick paste.

Apply the paste to the spots with a soft clean cloth.

Allow the paste to sit on the spotted area for 3 to 5 minutes.

Wipe the paste away with a clean cloth dipped in warm soapy water.

Rinse the area with a clean damp cloth to remove any residual soap.

Buff the area with a soft, clean dry cloth to restore the shine.
