Butterflies are a popular decorative element for weddings, birthdays and little girls' bedrooms. Make simple nylon butterflies, which you can customize to fit the color scheme and size specifications for your project. Nylon butterflies are inexpensive to make and can be the perfect opportunity to bring the family together for a joint craft project.
Roll out a piece of thin wire. Bend the wire into two loops of equal size. Twist the wires across each other in the center of the wire to create a "butterfly body," and hold the loops in place.
Mold or fix the wire wing loops as you desire. Cut a piece of nylon from a pair of pantyhose. Spray the wire with fabric glue. Stretch the nylon across the wings and inward around the wire.
Sew the edges of the nylon with a simple hand stitch along the edge of the wire.
Cut another piece of wire. Bend the wire in half and wrap it around the butterfly body so the two ends point upward to create the antennas. Twist the two ends around each other once or twice to attach to the body.
Decorate the wings as you desire with fabric paint, glitter, rhinestones, feathers and other embellishments. Glue a pompom on top of each antenna.
