You might have seen bars or other placed decorated with neon glowing bottles, and while you probably don't want them as a permanent part of your home, they can be fun for parties or other events. These bottles can be purchased, but you also can make your own for a lot less than you'd pay.
Things You'll Need:
- Empty Glass Bottle (Liquor Bottle, For Example)
- Water
- Black Light
- Needle-Nose Pliers
- Highlighters
- Gloves
- Rubbing Alcohol (Optional)
Clean the bottle with dish soap and water. Make sure there are no pieces of dirt left inside.
Put on the gloves and take the back off the highlighter. The backs tend to be somewhat hard to get off, so the pliers might help.
Locate a skinny, colored stick inside the highlighter. This is the part that holds all the ink. Remove it with the pliers.
Fill the empty bottle with water, leaving just a little air at the top. Water can mold, so you might want to add some rubbing alcohol.
Place one end of the stick in the neck of the bottle. With your other hand, pinch the ink stick near the top and simultaneously pull up on the ink stick with the pliers. This should squeeze all the ink from the stick into the glass bottle. For richer color, use multiple ink sticks.
Cap the bottle tightly and shake the contents to distribute the ink. Place the black light behind the finished bottle and it will glow.
Warnings:
- Black light can make bottles hot, so don't place the light too close.
