Turquoise is a strong addition to any jewelry maker's set. The green-blue color creates a strong accent and contrast with other stones and gems. If you have turquoise that you want to string, you can make the holes at home using a special drill bit.

Attach a vice to a sturdy work surface, about waist height. Tightly fasten the turquoise stone into the vice, with the area where you want the hole facing you at an upward 45-degree angle.
Unscrew the drill top and insert the stone bit. Tighten the bit and plug in the drill.
Start the drill on low and slowly press the bit into the spot on the turquoise where you want the hole. Be patient; it may take a few minutes to create even the beginning of a hole. Continue pressing the drill into the stone, slowly turning up the drill's power, until you are all the way through the stone.
