An obelisk is a long, slender monument that was erected by ancient Egyptians in front of a pylon, or the ornate gateways to a temple. There are four sides to an obelisk, with the top pointed and shaped like a pyramid.Only a handful of the original obelisks survive today, but a few similarly-shaped monuments stand today, such as the Washington Monument. They are fairly easy to make on your own as decoration or for children to learn about ancient Egyptians. Only a few common supplies are needed.
Print out an obelisk template or cut out one of your own liking using construction or other paper.
Cut out the obelisk template from the paper.
Fold along each line, applying pressure to make a crease in the paper.
Decorate each of the four sides, if you desire. This step is optional.
Use tape or glue to adhere the two ends of the cutout. Stand up and allow to dry completely before moving.
If you want to display your obelisk for a long period of time, you may want to glue the bottom down to something heavier, like a thick piece of cardboard. This will ensure that it does not get easily knocked over.
