How to Make a Piggy Bank out of a Water Bottle

Things You'll Need

  • Empty plastic bottle
  • E-6000 craft glue
  • Scissors or utility knife
  • Fabric or paper
  • Four empty thread spools
  • Yarn
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes

Instead of throwing that empty water, juice or soda bottle in the trash or recycle bin, why not make it into a cute one-of-a-kind piggy bank your kids will love?

Glue fabric or paper around the "body" of the bottle.

Cut piggy ears from the fabric or paper and glue them on as well, with the lid of the bottle acting as your piggy's snout.

Paint the empty thread spools any color you wish and then glue them to the body as your bank's four legs.

Cut a curly tail from the yarn and glue it to the bottle's bottom.

Glue the googly eyes onto your piggy bank's "face."

Slice a slot in your piggy bank's back using the knife or scissors that is large enough for coins and folded dollars. You won't need a hole to remove the money; all you will need to do is twist off the bank's nose.

  • Since this is a one-of-a-kind bank, it doesn't necessarily have to be a piggy. Use your imagination. Try making a cat, dog, lizard or shark bank.

  • Assist children when using knives, scissors or hot glue guns.
