Chilly winter winds can find their way through any gap around a door. With today's expensive heating costs, families are looking for inexpensive ways to keep the heating budget down and the house cozy. Cat draught excluders are one solution. Using bright colors and creative embroidery and trimmings creates a cheerful antidote to cold winter winds for any room.
Things You'll Need:
- Sewing Machine
- Stuffing, Such As Old Pantyhose, Cotton Batting For Head
- Scissors
- Filler Such As Lentils, Rice For Body.
- Black Embroidery Thread
- Googly Eyes
- Ironing Board
- Fabric At Least 16 Inches Wide And 4 Inches Longer Than The Width Of The Doorway For Body
- Old, Clean Leg Of Pantyhose
- Iron
- Two 8 Inch Fabric Squares For Cat Head
Fold the long piece of fabric in half, right sides together and sew one end closed. Fold in, iron but don’t sew, the seam allowance on the other end.
Tie a small knot in one end of the pantyhose and stuff it with filler. Tie a knot in the other end. Stuff it inside the fabric tube. Sew up the second end.
Cut the two fabric squares into the shape of a cat head. A circle with two pointed ears is simple to work with. Embroider a triangle nose and a curved line for a mouth on one piece. Sew the two pieces together with the right sides facing and leave the bottom open.
Turn the head inside out and press the shape. Stuff the head and sew up the bottom.
Glue googly eyes onto the cat face. Sew or glue the cat head on to one end of the long tube.
Tip
Use up fabric scraps by sewing them together to make a piece big enough for the draught excluder.
