The PS3 Slim is not only slimmer than the classic PS3, it also has a more compact design and operates more quietly. You can play all games in high defnition, or HD, and its interface is very easy to use. You can also use the PS3 Slim as a DVD and Blu-ray player. However, to play any games and install third-party applications on your PS3 Slim, you must first jailbreak it, and the easiest way to do this is by using a USB drive.
Things You'll Need:
- Usb Stick
- Winrar
Turn on your computer and plug the USB stick in one of its USB ports. The USB stick appears as an external drive in the Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the drive, then back up and delete all of its current files. Right-click on the white space, select "New" and click "Folder." Name the folder "PS3."
Double-click the PS3 folder, right-click inside the white space, select "New" and click "Folder." Name the new folder "Update."
Open your Web browser and navigate to Xup.in's PS3UPDAT.rar download page to download the necessary files (see Resources). Click the "Download" button and save the "PS3UPDAT.rar" archive on your computer's hard disk drive.
Use WinRAR or a similar program to extract the archive to the "Update" folder on the USB drive. A "PS3UPDAT.PUPjail" file is created. Remove the "jail" part from the name.
Unplug the USB stick from your computer, turn on the PS3 Slim and plug the USB stick into the gaming console.
Go to the "Settings" tab on the PS3 and select "System Update." Select to "Update via Storage Media."
Click "OK" when you are informed that the console found Version 3.55-jb.
Accept the conditions and click "Install Update" to install the jailbreak. It should take less than a minute. The PS3 then beeps four times and shuts down.
Power up the PS3 Slim from the console itself. You can now install any third-party application or game.
