Somewhere in the middle of your morning rush, you spilled your coffee onto your favorite leather purse. Leather stains can be difficult, but that doesn't mean your purse's days are numbered. If you act quickly, you can clean that coffee stain from your purse completely. The key is to catch the stain before it sets and to use the correct products for the stain removal.
Blot up as much of the stain as possible with paper towels. Do not rub the leather purse, that will make the stain worse. Press the paper towels gently into the leather to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
Apply warm water to a soft, clean cloth and gently rub the leather. Rub the leather in the direction it runs. Do not apply the water directly to the leather purse, as water does more damage than good to leather.
Add a mild detergent to the cloth if warm water alone did not remove the stain. Saddle soap works well, as does dishwashing liquid or leather soap. Rub the leather in the direction it runs and rinse it with a clean, damp cloth, not by running the purse under water.
Mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water in a bowl if the stain is still not gone. Dip a clean cloth in the vinegar and gently rub the purse with this mixture to remove the stain. Test the mixture in a hidden location of the purse, such as the bottom or the inside, before trying on the outside of your purse.
Rub the area with a dry towel to remove dampness and bring out a shine.
