Indoor games are great for parties, family gatherings, or keeping busy on a rainy day when there is nothing better to do. Games make great ice breakers to help new acquaintances get to know each other better, or can be a an opportunity to enjoy a few laughs with family and old friends.
In Plain Sight
This is a fun hidden object game, with a twist. Instead of hiding an object buried under cushions or in cabinets, the objective of this game is to hide something out in the open, where it is visible to all.
Choose any small, unspectacular object for this game, such as a coin, small doll, or key ring. One person leaves the room while someone places the object somewhere in the room. It cannot be placed under or behind anything. It has to be placed out in plain sight. For this game, the more cluttered the room with furniture and knickknacks, the better.
The person who left the room then comes back and searches for the object. Anyone else in the room should not give any hints. When the object is found, choose another person to leave the room and start the fun all over again.
Remember the good old fashioned games of dodge ball in the school gym? Re-create the fun at home, replacing the ball with a rolled up pair of socks.
Split all the players into two teams. Place a piece of yarn or string down on the floor, dividing the room. One team takes the sock and throws it at the other team. Anyone hit by a sock is out. If the sock is caught, the person throwing it is out. If the sock lands somewhere, anyone on that side of the line can take it and throw it back at the other team.
Six Degrees of Separation
This is a fun game for movie lovers who know their celebrities. One player chooses and actor or actress. Another player chooses another actor or actress. All the players then try to recall roles the celebrities were in until they build a link between them.
For example, the first pair of celebrities might be Kevin Costner and Will Smith. Kevin Costner was in "Bull Durham" with Susan Sarandon. Susan Sarandon was in "The Client" with Tommy Lee Jones. Tommy Lee Jones was in "Men in Black" with Will Smith. That would link Kevin Costner and Will Smith in four degrees of separation.
Everyone coming up with names can sometimes lead to very long chains before linking the two celebrities together. The trick is to try and do it in less than six degrees of separation.
Another spin on this game is called Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. The objective here is to link any celebrity to the actor Kevin Bacon in six degrees or less. The amount of people it takes to link to Kevin Bacon is known as the "Bacon Number."
