How to Make a Cube Cushion

Things You'll Need:

  • Upholstery fabric
  • Cube foam cushion
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing notions
  • Needle
  • Tape measure
  • Iron

Covering a cube cushion is a basic project that is not difficult. With accurate measurements, you can easily cover a cushion with equal sides in a short amount of time. As long as you proceed through the steps in order, your cube cushion cover will be made to correctly fit your cube dimensions.

Choose a sturdy-weight upholstery fabric for covering the foam cube and make sure your measurements are accurate. With attention to these two details, your cube cushion will be a quality cover that should last a long time.

Measure the foam cube cushion to make sure that each side is the same dimension. Add one inch to the dimensions for seam allowances.

Cut six pieces of fabric to make six identical square sides of fabric.

Pin two pieces together with right sides facing each other along one edge. Stitch this edge (and all seams) with 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Sew another piece to one raw edge of the two pieces sewn in step 3 in the same fashion to make a three-piece unit.

Sew one more piece to make a four-piece unit. Stitch the edges of the first and last cube together to make a circle.

Align the raw edges of the fifth square of fabric to the raw edges of the circle of squares, with right sides facing each other. Pin the edges and corners to secure and sew each side.

Align the raw edges of the sixth square to the remaining raw edges of the circle of squares, with right sides facing each other. Pin the edges and corners to secure. Sew three of the four sides.

Press under 1/2-inch along each raw edge left open on the remaining side.

Insert the cube foam cushion through the side left open.

Slip stitch the opening closed with small, inconspicuous stitches to finish the cube cushion.
